Yes, you read it correctly: this shopping addict is on a no-buy this month! All of September I’m not allowing myself to buy any kind of fashion items, homeware items, or makeup/beauty products, apart from ”essentials” like toothpaste and deodorant etc. I thought it’d be fun, and maybe helpful, to tell you guys how I’m doing so far, and of course update you once the month is over.
I’ve never been diagnosed as an actual shopping addict, but I feel like I match the description pretty well. Fortunately I’ve never been in debt because of my shopping habits, but I just can’t help but buy all kinds of crap ALL THE TIME and just spend way too much money (in my opinion) on things I don’t need at all. This worries me. I can afford it now because I live with my dad, but this won’t always be the case and when I live on my own I definitely won’t have as much money left to spend on random stuff (and probably won’t have as much space to store all of that stuff either).
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not planning on becoming a minimalist (I don’t think I have it in me unfortunately haha), and I’ll still buy things I technically don’t need, because in my opinion it’s totally OK to treat yourself once in a while! However, treating yourself multiple times a week – even if it’s just small and/or inexpensive things – is a bit much, isn’t it?
Anyway, I’m writing this on the 8th of September and so far I’m doing good. I bought toothpaste last week (it was on sale, lucky me lol) but other than that I haven’t bought anything. I do have my eye on a couple of fashion items, but buying those can wait a month. Maybe I don’t even want them anymore when this month is over, who knows. I’ll update you guys at the beginning of next month and maybe also share some tips on how I got through it! Have you ever done a no-buy? Do you have any tips for me?
