Ultimate beauty favourites of 2016 (EN)

Happy New Year guys! Today I’m showing you my favourite beauty products of 2016. At first I wanted to film a video about this, but seen as I kind of suck at filming videos I decided I’d do a blog post instead. This does mean that I had to narrow my favourites down a lot because otherwise this post would become a short novel (which it already is). I’m really bad at choosing favourites to begin with, so narrowing it down was quite a task. But I succeeded, so here are my absolute ultimate favourites! Hope you enjoy!

MAKEUP

A favourite since the beginning of 2016, and my favourite mascara to date, is the Essence Get Big! Lashes Volume Boost Waterproof Mascara. It keeps my lashes up and curled and makes them look voluminous and a bit longer. The only thing that’s kind of ”meh” about it is the huge brush, but I’ve learned to live with it haha. ;) Another eye area product I’ve been loving since late summer is the NYX Microbrow Pencil in Taupe. It’s super small so it’s easy to get a nice sharp tail. The formula is on the drier side so you have to go over certain parts a couple of times to get full colour, but this does mean it’s pretty longlasting.

A love since spring 2016 has been the Catrice Liquid Camouflage High Coverage Concealer in Porcellain. It’s inexpensive and has pretty high coverage compared to other drugstore concealers I’ve tried. It’s also the only concealer I’ve tried that barely creases under my eyes! One thing though: what’s with the heavy powdery floral scent? It’s a concealer, it doesn’t need a scent! Another favourite face product 2016 is the Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Celebrated. It’s a lovely neutral everyday colour with just enough pink and peach to it, and it stays on all day. I just saw it’s not sold anymore at Sephora! Nooooo why?!

Oddly enough I haven’t really fallen in love with many lip products in 2016, even though I’ve tried a lot of new ones. But one I’ve been wearing a lot since late summer is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Budapest (on my lips here). It’s a gorgeous dark reddish pink, almost burgundy colour, and the finish is matte but super comfortable.

SKINCARE

My favourite lip balm of 2016 is the Dr. Organic Moroccan Argan Lip Balm. It smells strongly of marzipan because of the almonds that are in it, but the scent doesn’t really linger. This is one of the few lip balms I’ve tried that actually keeps my lips moisturised for a longer period of time. Another more random skincare item is the Vaseline Intensive Rescue Moisture Locking Unscented Body Lotion (not pictured because my packaging’s completely messed up). The lotion is a bit on the thicker side so it doesn’t absorb super quickly, but it’s one of the only things that keeps my super itchy dry legs soft and moisturised during the winter.

Two products from First Aid Beauty! First of all my skin saviour: the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads. These are exfoliating toner pads that really helped with my texture issues, acne scars, irritated red skin.. Basically with everything! They’re suitable for sensitive skin and can be used daily. The other product is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, a.k.a. magic in a tube. This helps with everything: relieving itchy legs after shaving, or itchy bug bites, moisturising scars and dry, parched skin etc. Oh and I love the eucalyptussy scent!

Last but not least an honorable mention for a recent favourite: the Ciracle Anti Redness K Cream. A cream suitable for sensitive skin that helps to relieve, soothe and protect irritated red skin. It feels soft and soothing, isn’t too thick, but thick enough to moisturise my dry skin, and I do feel like it protects my skin. And I love the soft, herbally scent! A more in depth review’s coming!

OTHER (nails, perfume, hair, tools)

Of course I have to mention the Rimmel Nail Nurse 5 in 1 Nail Base & Top Coat. It takes a bit more work to apply two extra layers, but I’m 110% willing to do it because it makes my nail polish last three times longer! (More info in this post!) I’ve actually been loving nail polish in general the past year, but especially dusty rose, mauvey colours like The Sultan’s Daughter from Essence’s Lights of the Oriënt TE, or the Ultimate Nail Lacquer in Cha-KIRA by Catrice (nail swatch in this post).

Perfume wise my favourite was definitely La Petite Robe Noire by Guerlain, which I got for my birthday last year. It’s a lovely floral, quite ”grown up” scent. I wrote more about it – including the notes etc. – in this post.

I don’t often find hair products I really like, but the Guhl Awapuhi Daily Intensive Treatment spray is an exception. I don’t have a picture of it because I gave it to my mom haha. Anyways, a couple of sprays of this leave in treatment make my hair look and feel soft and shiney, and a lot less frizzy.

Lastly a couple of beauty tools. First of all my good old Jessup Buffing Brush. I’ve tried a couple of other buffing brushes to apply my founation and they were OK, but not as nice as this super inexpensive Jessup one. Another brush I’ve really been liking is the Real Techniques Contour Brush, which comes in the Core Collection (which I reviewed here). It’s small enough to get a precise contour, but fluffy enough to blend everything nicely. And last but not least: muslin cloths. I don’t know how I took off my makeup before I used cleansing balms and muslin cloths! They’re inexpensive, easy to clean, and most importantly: a lot less rough than a wash cloth or flannel, so they don’t irritate my sensitive-ish skin.
